From Buckets to Barrels
A brewer’s journey from homebrew disasters to small-batch dreams
What started with a humble homebrew kit and a bucket in the kitchen quickly spiralled into a full-blown obsession. I began brewing as a way to make beer on the cheap — turns out, that’s not how it works.
The first brews? Let’s just say they were more “educational” than drinkable. Oxidised, sweet, flat, and completely lacking in hop aroma. Exploding fermenters, boil overs and many late nights cleaning! One would question why this is a hobby! — but there was potential in the process, and a determination to do better.
With every batch came upgrades: new equipment, better ingredients, more reading, more mistakes — and more beers that were actually worth sharing. I moved from basic extract kits to all-grain brewing, swapping plastic buckets for stainless steel, and leaning into the creativity of recipe design.
The garage slowly transformed into a nano-brewery. I brewed everything from crisp lagers to hazy IPAs, and even managed to pull off a traditional lambic (that actually worked).
Now, I run a small-batch brewery driven by that same passion — creating fresh, flavourful beers and always pushing to brew something better.
